As Uganda's COVID-19 records continue to soar, the Ministry of Health announced a record high 701 new cases registered in a single day.
The Monday night statement said results from tests done on Sunday sent the COVID-19 cumulative confirmed cases to 23,200.
According to the statement, "One COVID-19 death was registered. The total COVID-19 deaths are now 207," the ministry announced.
However, the figures seem to be increasing after UPDF's Maj Chris Magezi announced the death of his mother following a battle with the deadly virus.
"Friends, compatriots, I regret to announce the passing of our mother, Mrs Betty Namasaba Oballa which occurred this morning at Medipal Hospital Kololo after she lost the battle to Covid-19. We need to be vigilant more than ever! RIP," Maj Magezi tweeted Tuesday Morning.
Addressing NRM leaders in Mbarara yesterday, President Yoweri Museveni who is the NRM Presidential flag bearer urged leaders and Ugandans, in general, to strictly follow the Ministry of Health's standard operating procedures in the fight against COVID-19 including wearing masks while in public, washing hands with soap and water, sanitizing and social distancing, warning that COVID-19 is deadly and getting worse.
"Those who are mobilising people in crowds during this pandemic of COVID-19 are enemies," he said.
According to the breakdown of the new cases by the Ministry of Health: 701 contacts and alerts: Kampala (290), Wakiso (74), Kasese (56), Kabarole (55), Kalungu (28), Mbarara (26), Kabale (25), Kagadi (25), Ibanda (12), Masaka (11), Kazo (11), Lyantonde (8), Kamwenge (8), Mubende (7).
Hoima (6), Bundibugyo (6), Bukomansimbi (6), Nakasongola (5), Mpigi (5), Butambala (4), Kyegegwa (4), Kyenjojo (4), Nakaseke (3), Kisoro (3), Bushenyi (3), Lira (2), Buikwe (2), Rukungiri (2), Bunyangabu (2), Buhweju (2) and Rubirizi (1).
