The Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi has encouraged Ugandans to go about their usual business without fear amid threats being circulated on social media.

In a tweet, Gen David Muhoozi described the messages threatening Ugandans as contemptible, adding that Ugandans' safety is guaranteed.

"These messages going around, threatening Ugandans are contemptible. Ignore them. We will defend you. Go about your business. Your safety is guaranteed," Gen Muhoozi said in the tweet.

On Monday, the Deputy IGP Gen Paul Lokech revealed that police and other security agencies had received intelligence information about planned city riots where some individuals and political groups are promoting panic and fear among the general public, using malicious video footages and audios, to purposely intimidate and prevent them from going about their normal businesses or reporting for work the 3rd to the 7th February 2021.

According to Gen Lokech, the audios and videos talk about people staying in their homes, stocking food and threatening all persons who will defy their alleged stay at home orders.

“The authors who are allegedly aligned to some opposition groups indicate how the protests will transition into a mass uprising including the use of external forces to attack government… We want to inform the public that we are taking these threats seriously and would like to assure them, that they should not be intimidated from going about their lawful businesses, because their security and safety is guaranteed,” he said.
