The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi has promised that the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces will investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault of journalists yesterday in Kololo and prosecute the individual soldiers who were involved.

Addressing the Press at the Ministry of Defence headquaters Mbuya, Gen Muhoozi apologized to the media fraternity regarding the incident that happened yesterday saying such actions are regrettable and the UPDF as a professional institution doesn’t condone such acts.

The Chief of Defence Forces promised that the journalists who sustained injuries will be assisted in meeting their medical bills.

He added that going forward, the UPDF will have to incorporate training modules to its soldiers and Officers in regard to the treatment and importance of journalists and there will be a review on the rules of engagement when the forces are carrying out their duties. He also promised to have an engagement with media as soon as possible to brainstorm on the way forward.

He called upon journalists to at all times be visibly identifiable during their execution of duty and avoid crossing the lines as it has sometimes happened.

The CDF was flanked by the Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso and her Deputy Lt Col Deo Akiiki.
