President Yoweri Museveni yesterday commissioned the latest infantry fighting vehicle at an event also attended by the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations and Commander Land Forces (CLF) Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The vehicle which is designed and manufactured in Uganda will help the UPDF troops' tactical and operational mobility.

Following the commissioning by the Commander-in-Chief, the CLF expressed his pleasure.

"Land Forces of UPDF was honored yesterday when the President and Commander in Chief commissioned our latest Infantry Fighting Vehicle, 'Chui'. It was fully designed and manufactured in Uganda. God bless Uganda!" the CLF tweeted Tuesday morning.

In 2018, President Museveni said that is good that Ugandans have started to wake up from the sleep they have been in by employing "Simple physics and chemistry that most educated Ugandans know”.

Mr Museveni made the remarks during the function to commission assembled armored military vehicles by the Ugandan army at the UPDF Defence depot in Magamaga in Mayuge district.

While taking over as the CLF, Gen Kainerugaba said the President had tasked the new leadership to focus on four key areas including enhancing combat capabilities, addressing the welfare deficit of the troops by improving accommodation and living standards, ensuring the health of officers especially in these challenging times and above all intensify political education.

The commissioning of the new fighting vehicle is an indication of UPDF's continued growth in capabilities over the years.
