The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) fraternity is mourning the death of one of its longest-serving officers, Brig. Gen. Mark Ayiasi Kodili, who died today (Thursday, January 6, 2022) morning at Victoria hospital.

According to family members and friends, Kodili who had retired from active service in 2018, has been battling diabetes and high blood pressure for quite some time.

Former UPDF spokesperson Col Deo Akiiki eulogized the fallen General.

"Sad to learn of the passing on of one of the former longest-serving Chief of personnel and Administration of the UPDF Brig Gen Mark Kodili. He is the only CPA we knew as young and vibrant 2Lts and indeed he guided us as a parent. Rest in Peace Gen Mark," Col Akiiki tweeted.

Kodili has been working as a coordinator for Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) in his home district of Moyo within West Nile region He breathed his last at around 5:00am.

“You were a mentor and friend to many. Your death brings tears in my eyes Rest in God’s glory Brig. Kodili,” eulogized Col. Loti Dradria Osutre Kabilomvamunguni, one of the soldiers Kodili mentored.

In a period of two years, OWC has lost five coordinators in the West Nile region alone.
Quoting a close friend, New Vision reports that Brig. Kodili had recently undergone an operation after his leg muscles got swollen.

Medical experts say swelling of muscles happens when the tissues or blood vessels in the legs hold more fluid than they should, and that this can be corrected with an operation.
