Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has released Shs1.8billion to facilitate the burial expenses of Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah, the former speaker of parliament.

Minister of State for Planning, Amos Lugoloobi on Tuesday laid on floor of Parliament a statement on statutory revision of the Budget of Vote 104 (Parliamentary Commission) for FY 2021/22 by Shs1.8bn. According to Lugoloobi, the funds will be used to meet all costs during Oulanyah’s burial. Oulanyah passed away on March 20th, 2022 in Seattle hospital.

The Parliamentary Pensions (Amendment) Act requires that 30% of the gross annual salary of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker who dies in office shall be used towards the funeral expenses.

According to the final burial program released by Minister for Presidency, Milly Babalanda, Oulanyah’s body will arrive at Entebbe International Airport on Friday, 1st April 2022 at 2.00 pm aboard Ethiopian Airlines. On Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th April, the body will lie at the home of the Speaker in Muyenga where friends and well-wishers will pay their last respects.

On Tuesday, 5th April 2022, the body will be moved to Parliament where the Rt. Hon. Speaker will lead the Members of Parliament to pay their final respects. The body will then spend the night in Parliament. On Wednesday 6th April 2022, the body will be taken to Kololo Ceremonial Grounds for a State Funeral before it is airlifted to Lalogi in Omoro district.

Oulanyah’s body will be laid to rest on Friday, 8th April 2022. The day will be observed as a Public Holiday as declared by H.E. the President.
