The Commander Land Forces of the UPDF Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has congratulated the outgoing first division commander Maj Gen Sam Kawagga for his contribution in building a strong foundation which he said will be crucial for the success of his predecessor.

Gen Kainerugaba was speaking at the handover/takeover ceremony for the new division commander Brig Joseph Semwanga at the 1 infantry division headquarters, Kakiri in Wakiso district.

Gen Kainerugaba expressed optimism that Brig Ssemwanga will succeed as the division commander, noting that he's known him for some time and believes in his capabilities.

"I congratulate Gen Kawagga for concluding his tour of duty as 1 division commander and I thank him for laying a strong foundation for his predecessor. Gen Kawagga takes on another important assignment as defense attaché to Kenya and we needed a person of his qualities for the assignment," Gen Kainerugaba noted.

Gen Kainerugaba urged the new division commander to always get in touch with him whenever need arises.

Meanwhile, the CLF thanked the first division militants for their role in maintaining peace and security in their area of jurisdiction.

The incoming division commander promised to work hard and build on the achievements of his predecessor in order to maintain peace and tranquility. 

On his part, Gen Kawagga thanked the commander in chief for his guidance which he said had enabled him achieve everything he had achieved as division commander and as a soldier generally.

The ceremony was attended by area leaders, commanders and Militants.

Gen Kawagga was recently designated as Uganda's defense attaché to Kenya while Brig Ssemwanga has now officially assumed his role as first division commander.
