In a statement issued, Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon said the updated timeline aligns with the Commission’s preparations to ensure a smooth electoral process.

The nomination of candidates for Local Government Councils will take place in phases. District and City Chairpersons, Lord Mayors, and Councillors will be nominated from September 3 to 5, 2025.

Municipality and City Division Chairpersons and Councillors will follow from September 8 to 10, 2025.

Sub County, Town, and Municipal Division Chairpersons and Councillors will be nominated between September 11 and 24, 2025, excluding weekends.

Justice Byabakama announced that nomination forms and related documents for these positions will be accessible at District and City Electoral Commission offices or downloadable from the Commission’s official website starting August 11, 2025.

Parliamentary nominations, including those for Special Interest Groups, will be conducted on October 15 and 16, 2025, at offices of District and City Returning Officers. The required forms and guidelines will also be available online starting August 11.

For presidential aspirants, nomination forms and guidelines will be available from August 11 to September 24, 2025, at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala, on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Aspirants must present signatures from registered voters in at least two-thirds of Uganda’s districts. Those nominated by political parties must provide official authorization, while independent candidates must present proof of registration as voters.
