Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General Daudi Kabanda has called on supporters to turn up in large numbers for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s first campaign rally at Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday, 23rd, following his nomination by the Electoral Commission.

Kabanda urged Ugandans to show overwhelming support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer, saying the event will mark the official launch of Museveni’s 2026 re-election campaign.

“This is not just a rally, it is a show of strength and unity. We call upon all NRM supporters and well-wishers to come in big numbers to Kololo and stand with our candidate as we begin the journey to secure Uganda’s future,” Kabanda said.

He emphasized that the rally will reaffirm the NRM’s message of stability, economic transformation, and peace as key pillars of Uganda’s progress.

Museveni’s nomination followed the strict requirements of the Presidential Elections Act, which compels each aspirant to present at least 100 signatures from registered voters in no fewer than 98 districts — a minimum of 9,800 endorsements. Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama had urged candidates to book nomination slots early to avoid a last-minute rush.

President Museveni, who seeks a potential seventh term, exceeded the requirement by submitting more than 2.2 million signatures after securing the NRM endorsement.

The Kololo event is expected to attract party leaders, youth groups, and thousands of supporters from across the country, setting the tone for the campaign season.
