The Bukoto–Kisalosalo Road has been repaired by the UPDF Engineering Brigade, following a directive from Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The once dilapidated route—narrow, potholed, and poorly drained is now in good shape, and nearby businesses are reporting a return of customers.

Lt Col Eng. Robert Chabo, Deputy Commandant of the UPDF Engineering Brigade, is supervising the works. According to 2nd Lt Abraham Kato, an assistant engineer on site, the rehabilitation covers two sections; from Kisaasi Road to the Mukalazi–Kisule Road junction, and another stretch leading to the Northern Bypass.

Kato explained that the road had serious issues before including inadequate drainage.

Large potholes made driving difficult, caused frequent congestion, and forced pedestrians onto a narrow carriageway shared with vehicles. He said all those problems have now been resolved.

The community cooperated well with the engineers, Kato added.

Motorists say the repairs have led to smoother rides with some recalling spending long hours in traffic due to the previous poor state.

Now, they describe the road as a clear improvement.

Businesses along the route have also seen a rebound. Benita Kyakuwa, a boutique owner, said there was a time when vehicles could barely pass because of potholes, and customer numbers dropped. She however explained that customers have since returned, she said, in even greater numbers.

Hope Tumushabe spoke about past flooding during rainy seasons, when clogged drains pushed water into her house and nearby shops. She said the UPDF works have cleared and widened the channels, allowing water to flow properly.

According to 2nd Lt Kato, the UPDF Engineering Brigade now has the capacity for larger infrastructure projects. He credited President Museveni and Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for empowering the unit.
