President Museveni has named lawyer Siraji Musa Ali as the new Minister of State for Works in his latest cabinet reshuffle. The appointment marks a shift as his father, veteran statesman Gen. Moses Ali, retires from his long-held cabinet role to focus on his parliamentary seat.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed legal professional Siraji Musa Ali as the new Minister of State for Works, a symbolic transition as his father, the venerable Gen. Moses Ali, is relived of cabinet ministerial duties.

Over a distinguished career spanning decades, Gen. Moses Ali has held several senior government positions in Uganda, including the tourism, trade, and internal affairs portfolios. He has also served multiple terms as Deputy Prime Minister.

Born on April 5, 1939, in the Adjumani District, the 87-year-old veteran statesman was the oldest member of the recently dissolved cabinet. In that administration, he served as the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business from 2021 to 2026.

The strategic appointment of Siraji Musa Ali, a son to Moses Ali emerged during the announcement of the new 2026–2031 executive cabinet line-up. Gen. Moses Ali, one of Uganda’s longest-serving post-independence statesmen, has retired from front-line ministerial duties after a distinguished career spanning several decades.

The decorated military officer and veteran lawmaker will continue to represent his constituents in the 12th Parliament after recently taking his parliamentary oath inside the national assembly conference hall. Former Minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga will replace the outgoing general as the new Deputy Prime Minister.

The incoming State Minister, Siraji Musa Ali, is an accomplished lawyer by profession who joins the cabinet alongside several other children of historic Ugandan leaders. The appointing authority tasked the younger Ali with managing the national transport infrastructure portfolio to accelerate regional economic connectivity.

Some political analysts noted that the political transition preserves the political representation of the West Nile sub-region while injecting youthful, professional talent into core sectors.

Vetting committees in the Parliament of Uganda will soon convene to evaluate the academic papers and track records of the new ministerial nominees. Political analysts observed that the inclusion of descendants of veteran leaders highlights the ruling administration’s strategy of balancing historical continuity with executive modernization.

The transition allows Gen. Moses Ali to focus entirely on legislative oversight for his constituency while his son steers infrastructural policymaking.
