The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, received the Letters of Credence from the newly appointed Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) to the Republic of Uganda, Ms. Baimankay Sankoh.
The high-level diplomatic presentation took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kampala.
Hon. Kasolo welcomed the new envoy and reiterated Uganda’s commitment to working closely with the global food agency to advance food security and sustainable development.
The minister noted that the prevailing peace and stability in the country continues to provide a highly conducive environment for agricultural productivity.
He attributed this stable environment to the strategic stewardship of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, which has allowed Uganda to successfully promote regional food security.
Ms. Sankoh reaffirmed WFP’s long-term commitment to further strengthening its structural partnership with the Government of Uganda.
The incoming Country Director highlighted critical areas of ongoing and future cooperation, including increasing local food procurement and expanding support to smallholder farmers.
She added that the agency will prioritize the expansion of school feeding programmes and accelerate initiatives geared towards enhancing household food security and building community resilience.
Ms. Sankoh further observed that Uganda’s year-round agricultural production cycles position the country as a dependable food basket for the entire East African region.
The engagement concluded with both sides expressing their mutual commitment to deepening institutional collaboration for the benefit of vulnerable communities.
