Police issued strict traffic guidelines ahead of the burial of former Prime Minister Prof Apolo Nsibambi on Tuesday.

Nsibambi who died last Tuesday will be buried at St Stephen’s Church of Uganda along the Mityana-Kampala Highway.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Traffic Commander SSP Norman Musinga says a number of traffic guidelines will be followed as government officials, politicians, religious and traditional leaders among others head for burial.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, Musinga said, “The following routes will be used; Entebbe- Kampala Express, Northern Bypass, Mityana-Kampala Highway and Kasero road.” He revealed that traffic police officers will be deployed along the routes leading to the burial ground and designated parking areas.

Only vehicles for the Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs) will be allowed to access and park at the burial site. Very Important Persons (VIPs) will be dropped off at the venue and their vehicles will proceed to the designated parking at Kamila Millers.

Meanwhile, the general public will be dropped off on the Mityana- Kampala Highway and then walk to the burial site, which is adjacent to the road. “Snap checks will be erected to check on errant drivers along Mityana-Kampala Highway,” SSP Musinga said, cautioning against over speeding and careless driving on the road since it is expected to attract a lot of traffic.
