HOIMA-Thirteen pupils of Kabaale public primary school in Buseruka sub-county Hoima district have been injured in a heavy storm that carried away the school roof.
The storm at about 5pm on Wednesday affected the P.3 and P.4 classroom block of the government aided primary school. Jovia Kyomugisa, a primary one class teacher says the pupils were hit by falling debris and are now admitted at the nearby Kabaale Health Centre nursing multiple body injuries.
According to Kyomugisa, none of the teachers was injured since they were attending computer lessons in the school’s computer lab, which was not affected. Dan Busobozi, the school head teacher says the school has nowhere to hold classes for over 300 pupils following the disaster.
“Although this is a rainy season, we are not going to stop the learners from coming to school but rather shall improvise to ensure learning continues as stakeholders look into the matter,” he said on Thursday. According to him, the affected classroom block had been condemned but could still be used because of limited structures.
Godfrey Sserwanja, the Hoima district Education Officer says the matter will be urgently addressed.
