The Minister of State for Defence in charge General Duties Col (Rtd) Charles Engola and Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs have commended the role UPDF continues to play towards establishment of peace and security in Somalia.
Minister Engola and the Parliamentary Committee, led by its Chairperson Doreen Amule made the remarks on Saturday during a visit to the Deputy Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, Simon Mulongo.
Mulongo warmly welcomed the Ugandan delegation and he together with the other AMISOM senior leaders briefed the visitors on activities being executed in Somalia. The delegation later met the Special Representative of the Secretary General in Somalia Ambassador James Swan at the UN Offices in Mogadishu.
The delegates also visited and inspected equipment used by the United Nations Guard Unit (UNGU) VI after briefing by the Commander, Lt Col Nathan Bainomugisha. The Minister and his team hailed the peacekeepers for the good work done in Somalia.
