STATE HOUSE, ENTEBBE: President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday received and held a meeting with the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, David Dabede Mabuza.

During the meeting that took place at State House, Entebbe, and also attended by Uganda’s State Minister for Regional Cooperation, Philemon Mateke, the two leaders discussed the situation in South Sudan and agreed to work together to ensure that all outstanding issues between the warring factions are achieved over the extended period of 100 days of the Pre-Transitional government of national unity.

Early this month the Tripartite Summit of the Heads of State of Uganda, Sudan and South Sudan that took place in Entebbe on the revitalized Agreement on Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan, agreed to extend the Pre-Transitional period for 100 days effective 12th November 2019 in order to, among others, handle the incomplete critical tasks related to the security arrangements, including the formation of a revitalized transitional government of National Unity.

The one-day Summit was convened by President Yoweri Museveni and attended by the President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan, Abdalftah Alburhan, who are the guarantors of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.

The Tripartite also included President Salva Kiir of South Sudan.

The Summit was also attended by Dr. Riek Machar, who is the Chairperson of the South Sudan Liberation Movement in Opposition and Mr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, who is Kenya’s Special Envoy on South Sudan.

The South African Deputy President who also doubles as the Special Envoy from President Cyril Ramaphosa said that South Africa has support for material progress for peace agreement and implementation in South Sudan.
