The 25th Police Council meeting is underway at the Police Headquarters Naguru.

The Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola has officially opened the meeting which intends to discuss a number of issues affecting the institution. Among other issues, the force is currently battling violent crime, especially in Kampala Metropolitan Area and other urban centers.

During the IGP's absence a month ago President Museveni directed his Deputy Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi to come up with a plan of defeating the criminal gangs killing and terrorizing the population with machetes and iron bars.

The Commander-in-Chief gave the Deputy IGP two days then to come out with the revised security plan, which has since been rolled out.

The annual Police Council meeting is running under the theme, "Strengthening our achievements and finding solutions to policing challenges to guarantee public safety."

Present also is the Deputy IGP Maj. Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi.

During the annual meeting, the police top brass including the IGP, his deputy, Directors, Heads of Units, Regional Police Commanders and District Police Commanders meet to discuss pertinent issues and take key decisions.

Last year’s meeting convened in February at the Marine Base in Kigo, Entebbe, where then IGP Gen Kale Kayihura emphasized the need for teamwork to enforce discipline and redeem the police image, which was negative at the time.

“We should complement each other to deliver, we must be coordinated, there’s nobody here who works alone, so we have to redeem the image of the force and ultimately your image at an individual professional level and take discipline and integrity as a key,” Gen Kayihura said then.
