Cabinet sitting on Monday has approved a proposal to borrow up to 10million Euros (over Shs40bn) to finance health infrastructure projects in Karamoja.
According to Denis Katungi, the Communications and Media Relations manager at Uganda Media Centre, government will borrow the money from the Government of the Republic of Italy to finance the Karamoja Infrastructure Development Project Phase II Project under the Health Sector Development Plan (HSDP).
“The Project is designed for the construction of 68 Staff Houses for selected Health facilities in all the Districts of Karamoja among others,” Katungi said.
Katungi added that the purpose of the loan therefore is to construct and equip new Health Center IIIs in the sub-counties that are not yet covered and make them functional; upgrade some existing infrastructure (HC II, IV and Regional Referral Hospitals. Cabinet also noted the measures currently being undertaken by the Ministry of Health to prevent, detect and respond to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and new measures regarding preparedness and containment in Uganda.
Subsequently, President Yoweri Museveni will tomorrow (Wednesday) address the nation on coronavirus. Similarly, the Minister of Health Ruth Aceng is today expected to update parliament on the same.
