Lango Cultural Foundation Donates Shs10m Towards COVID-19 Fight

Lango Cultural Institution has on Monday donated 5 tonnes of maize flour in form of Shs10m cash to the COVID-19 National Taskforce.

The donation in form of a dummy cheque was handed over to Minister of State for General Duties Karooro Okurut in the OPM boardroom by the Head of delegation, Ambassador Dickson Ogwang who is also the legal advisor in the Lango cultural foundation. Other members in the delegation included; Peter Okello and Amb. George Atim, who is also the Secretary General of Uganda Kings and Cultural Leaders Forum.

“I and the people of Lango responded to this noble cause after our beloved and dedicated President sounded the alarm and appealed for assistance to help the vulnerable people of Uganda affected by the COVID-19 lockdown,” His Royal Highness [Won Nyaci] Yosam Odur Ebii said in his message read by Amb. Ogwang.

Ogwang said that the donation of Shs10m is from a humble contribution from the cabinet members of the Lango cultural institution. He added that His Royal Highness Yosam Odur has immensely appreciated the good work that Minister of Health Jane Ruth Aceng is doing in the fight against COVID-19 and that the kingdom is going to name after her one of the girls’ school dormitories.

“His Highness has appreciated the works of his daughter, the minister of Health [Jane Aceng] and has instructed that one of the major schools in Lango will have a girls’ dormitory named after Jane Ruth Aceng for the good work she is doing,” Ogwang said.

Lango Cultural kingdom is hopeful that the tireless efforts of government will eventually combat the deadly Coronavirus which has ravaged all major continents in the world with over 3m confirmed cases.

Minister Karooro Okurut commended Lango Cultural foundation for generously contributing to the National Taskforce.

“Take our heartfelt gratitude to His Highness and his people. This is not a small donation and indeed everything is welcome. Thank you for that kindness and generosity and I pray that where you have taken from, may God add more. May God bless you abundantly,” Okurut said.
