President Yoweri Museveni will today, Monday at 8 pm announce new guidelines as COVID-19 cases reach 89.
Museveni is expected to guide the nation in today’s televised address on the way forward as the 21-day lockdown extension comes to a close tomorrow (Tuesday).
“I urge you all to continue observing the guidelines from our health experts as the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic continues,” Museveni tweeted.
This comes after the Ministry of Health on Sunday registered one more case of COVID-19 bringing the number of confirmed cases to 89.
Among the new cases include a Kenyan truck driver and police officer from Masindi Barracks, prompting the Ministry of Health to quarantine over 100 residents in the barracks and also restrict entry in the barracks especially to non-uniformed people.
According to sources, President Museveni is expected to partially lift the lockdown by allowing private cars and other businesses to operate in a bid to avoid stagnation of the economy.
A source told Kampala Post, that officials from the Ministry of Health have asked the president to extend the lockdown by another 14days.
Among other sectors that are expected to remain closed is the public transport sector, bars, and disco clubs, etc.
