Cabinet has approved the re-appointment of Ben Anyama as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Cotton Development Organization (CDO).
In a cabinet resolution signed by State Minister for ICT Peter Ogwang, Anyama and other members of the Board will serve for another 3year term. Anyama was appointed to the CDO Board in 2017.
Other members of the Board as approved by cabinet include; Alex Lwakuba, Abdul Kasule, Teddy Alako, Dr. Michael Ugen , Jackson Oyugi, Anant Parma, Samuel Kanakulya, Amdan Khan, Caroline Kella Akello, James Otto and Jolly Sabune who is the Managing Director, Cotton Development Organization.
Section 4 of Cotton Development Act stipulates that a member of the board shall hold office for a term of three years and shall be eligible for reappointment, but his or her tenure of office shall not exceed two consecutive terms. The Cotton Development Organisation monitors the production, processing, and marketing of cotton in Uganda. The organisation promotes the distribution of high quality cotton seed and generally facilitates the development of the cotton industry.
Cotton is Uganda’s third largest export crop after coffee and tea. It is the main source of income for some 250,000 households, who cultivate cotton under rain-fed conditions and with minimal use of inputs, such as fertilisers and chemicals.
