The Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs (Defence) Jacob Marksons Oboth on Wednesday hosted the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda Zhang Lizhong who paid a courtesy call on him at the Ministry Of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.

According to an official statement, Uganda and China continue to enjoy and maintain long-term traditional relationships in terms of infrastructure, trade and peacekeeping.

Ambassador Lizhong said Kampala and Beijing have shared a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the meeting was to pave the way for another MOU to work together in terms of peacekeeping operations, reads the statement.

The meeting discussed shared goals on economic and trade deals, African security and defence matters in Africa.

It was agreed during the meeting that the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will be held through a zoom meeting in the month of August to further discuss matters of common concern between the two countries.

In attendance were the Defence Ministry Permanent Secretary Rosette Byengoma and other Chinese counterparts Zhang Zhuo and Cheng Cheng.
