The NRM flagbearer, Edmund Herbert Ariko is the new Member of Parliament for Soroti City East Division.
Ariko beat the incumbent MP, Moses Attan Okia (FDC) in a highly contested Thursday by-election.
According to the declaration form signed by Soroti City Returning Officer, Christine Eyuu, Ariko garnered 9407 votes against Attan's 8771 while UPC's Pascal Amuriat took home only 115 votes.
By press time, Soroti City was in high celebration as Ariko's supporters stormed the streets in jubilation.
Attan who beat Ariko with a slight range in 2021 general polls lost his seat after High Court called for fresh elections over boundary demarcations where some wards that belonged to Soroti City East Division were taken to Soroti City West.
