166 farmers in Kigulu North Constituency are set to receive 501 improved breeds of pigs under the wealth creation initiative by the government of Uganda through the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS).

The pigs including the large white, camborough and landrace breeds were handed over by the NAADS Livestock Development officer Dr. Thomas Nsemerirwe to a representative of Fred Kyakulaga Bwino, the state minister for Agriculture and MP Kigulu North in Iganga district.

According to Dr. Nsemerirwe, out of the 501 pigs, 167 are males while 334 are females. The females are 4 to 5 months while the male were 5 to 6 months. Each beneficiary will receive 3 pigs (2 females and one male).

When the pigs farrow, each beneficiary is expected to pass on 5 piglets to another beneficiary to ensure that more people benefit from the initiative.

Dr. Nsemerirwe said NAADS expects beneficiaries to generate sustainable income through profitable piggery farming.
