The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), in partnership with the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (UCMP), will host the 5th Annual National Content Conference from November 28-29, 2024, at Speke Resort Munyonyo. The event, themed “Advancing National Content in the Oil and Gas Sector, Three Years After FID,” will highlight Uganda’s progress since the Final Investment Decision (FID) and explore strategies to deepen local participation in the oil and gas industry.

Mr. Egbert Faibille Jnr, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Petroleum Commission, will deliver the keynote address. Renowned for his success in fostering local content in Ghana, Mr. Faibille is expected to offer valuable insights on how Uganda can maximize opportunities in its emerging oil and gas sector while promoting sustainability and inclusivity.

“The conference is a platform for fostering collaboration, sharing insights, and ensuring Uganda’s oil and gas sector benefits all stakeholders,” said Ms. Gloria Sebikari, Manager Corporate Affairs at PAU. “With participation from local and international experts, we aim to enhance national content initiatives and secure sustainable development.”

The event will review achievements in the oil and gas sector since FID. Over 14,900 Ugandans have been employed, and local companies have secured contracts worth $1.7 billion in the past three years. It will also address challenges and strategies for strengthening national participation in the sector.

UCMP Chief Executive Officer Humphrey Asiimwe emphasized the importance of the partnership between UCMP and PAU in building local capacity.
“We are proud to work alongside the Petroleum Authority of Uganda to champion initiatives that strengthen local capacity, promote technology transfer, and create opportunities for Ugandans in the oil and gas value chain,” he said.

The conference will include discussions on empowering local businesses, capacity building, and success stories of Ugandan enterprises thriving in the sector. The event will conclude with the 2nd National Content Awards, recognizing exceptional contributions to skilling, technology transfer, supplier development, and sustainability.

Sebikari said that as Uganda approaches its first oil production, the conference provides a timely platform for stakeholders to align on shared goals and chart a path toward an inclusive and prosperous oil and gas industry.
