President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Lira District, recognizing it as a key driver of economic transformation.

During his visit to Alingiri village, Amach Town Council, Museveni praised farmer Vicky Apio, a PDM beneficiary, for effectively utilizing program funds to expand her farming projects. “I want to thank Vicky Apio for waking up from sleep. She started with maize farming, reared sheep, and bought a plot of land. Now, she is growing further,” Museveni said.

He pledged additional support, including financial assistance, a tricycle for transport, and a borehole to address water shortages. He also rewarded 10 successful farmers from Erute South Constituency with UGX 1 million each.

The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, applauded the program’s impact on family unity. “In all the places we visited today, I admire how PDM is fostering a culture of men and women working together. This will uplift families and strengthen national unity,” she said.

Apio, a 37-year-old mother of six, shared her journey from poverty to financial stability through PDM. “Before receiving PDM funds, life was extremely difficult. My children dropped out of school due to lack of fees. But after getting the money, I planted three acres of maize, harvested 45 bags, and earned UGX 2.8 million,” she said.

She reinvested in farming, bought sheep, and acquired land. Her earnings grew to UGX 4 million in 2024, enabling her to buy a plot in Amach Town Council. Looking ahead, she plans to venture into coffee and dairy farming and add value to her maize produce.

“I appreciate President Museveni for empowering women and for the PDM program,” Apio said.

The event was attended by Ministers, Members of Parliament, and local leaders.
