Uganda, Iran Deepen Ties Through High-Level Political Consultations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda hosted a high-level delegation from Iran for bilateral political consultations aimed at enhancing the long-standing relations between the two nations.

The Iranian delegation was led by A. Khosavinez, Assistant Minister and Director-General for Africa, while Uganda’s team was headed by Ambassador John Leonard Mugerwa, who oversees the International Legal and Social Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala.

The discussions covered key areas of mutual interest, including political cooperation, trade and investment, education, health, and technological exchange.

Ambassador Mugerwa reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to strengthening its diplomatic ties with Iran, emphasizing the importance of continuous dialogue to drive sustainable development and economic growth. He also acknowledged the deep-rooted historical ties between the two nations.

On his part, Khosavinez expressed Iran’s appreciation for Uganda’s hospitality and reiterated Iran’s commitment to enhancing trade and economic partnerships, particularly in energy, infrastructure development, and agricultural technology.

Both delegations recognized the importance of diplomatic dialogue in tackling regional and global challenges. They reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation, while also stressing the need for increased people-to-people exchanges to deepen cultural ties.

The consultations concluded on a positive note, with both sides agreeing to strengthen mechanisms for implementing agreed areas of cooperation and to hold regular meetings to monitor progress.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Uganda’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with Iran and other friendly nations to promote peace, security, and development.
