The Ministry of Works and Transport has suspended all operations of Y.Y Coaches for 15 days following a series of fatal road crashes involving the company’s buses.

The suspension, announced by the Minister of State for Works and Transport (Transport), Fred Byamukama, aims to allow a comprehensive safety inspection of the company’s fleet at the Namanve Motor Vehicle Inspection Station.

The action follows two deadly accidents reported along the Katosi–Kyetume–Nyenga/Njeru and Pakwach–Arua highways, both involving Y.Y Coaches buses. The incidents have raised serious public concerns over the safety of the company’s operations.

“The safety of passengers is our top priority,” said Byamukama. “This inspection and suspension are intended to ensure that all vehicles operated by Y.Y Coaches meet the required roadworthiness and safety standards before being allowed back on the road.”

The ministry will also conduct a compliance audit to assess the company’s adherence to transport regulations. The findings will determine whether Y.Y Coaches will resume operations or face further sanctions.

The inspection is part of government efforts to improve public transport safety and prevent further loss of life on Uganda’s roads.
