President Yoweri Museveni has appointed the Minister of State for Children and Youth Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, as the new coordinator for the Kigo Carpentry Village and Skilling Centre.

This followed a surprise visit to the centre, where the President, inspired by ongoing concerns about the misuse of funds by current leaders, took action. During the visit, he observed that the workshop was missing and was only shown the showroom.

In this role, the minister has been directed to immediately organise all 500 youth beneficiaries of the project to meet and compile reports on the activities at the facility.

Following Balaam's appointment, the President ordered the sacking of the current leadership due to underperformance.

The President also demanded a report on how the project funds have been used, and some arrests have already been made.

Balaam Barugahara, who is also an NRM mobiliser, is expected to make drastic changes at the Kigo centre to put the initiative back on track.

The people who had gathered at the centre applauded the President, as he cast a ray of hope that the project would eventually serve its intended purpose.
