Brig. Gen. (Rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande has won the NRM primaries to become the party's flag bearer in Lwemiyaga County after defeating the incumbent, Theodore Ssekikubo.
The NRM primaries were held on Thursday, July 17. The showdown between Rwashande and Ssekikubo in Lwemiyaga was highly contentious, with violence reported in some areas.
Ssekikubo, according to the latest reports, has rejected the poll outcomes in which he garnered 8,702 votes, while the winner received 16,358 votes. Other contenders were Joy Kabatsi, Jacob Kato and Edmond Bwire.
Ssekikubo is not the only incumbent who lost. Several incumbents, including Ministers David Bahati, Musa Ecweru, Peace Mutuuzo and Rose Akello, were also defeated.
