The Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) has received a new Board of Directors, ending an eight-year gap without a governing body. The new board, chaired by Rtd. Gen. Ivan Koreta, was inaugurated on Friday at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.
While presiding over the ceremony, the Minister of State for Industry, David Bahati, urged the new board to focus on providing strategic direction rather than interfering with the day-to-day work of management. “The role of the board is to guide and strengthen the Institute’s mandate, not to overlap with management,” Bahati said.
Rtd. Gen. Koreta pledged to foster collaboration among board members and management to drive innovation and strengthen Uganda’s industrial sector. “We shall advance value addition, applied research, and appropriate technologies to build a strong, effective, and competitive industry,” he said.
The new board members include:
- Rtd. Gen. Ivan Koreta – Chairperson
- Ms. Jolly K. Kaguhangire – Member
- Dr. Catherine Wandera – Member
- Ms. Magdalene Akite – Member
- Mr. Ramathan Ggoobi – Ex-Officio
- Dr. Joshua Mutambi – Ex-Officio
- Prof. Charles Kwesiga – Secretary
The appointment is expected to inject new leadership into UIRI’s efforts to promote industrial research, value addition, and technology development.
