The Minister of Foreign Affairs Odongo Jeje Abubakhar is in Singapore for the 5th Singapore–Africa Ministerial Exchange Visit (SAMEV), held under the theme “Progressing Together Towards a Sustainable Future”.

He was invited by his Singaporean counterpart Dr Vivian Balakrishnan to the biennial platform, hosted by Singapore to strengthen links and encourage the exchange of development experiences between Singapore and Africa.

On August 28, Odongo joined 14 other Foreign Ministers from the continent at the opening of the 8th Africa Singapore Business Forum (ASBF), held on the sidelines of SAMEV. John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, delivered the keynote address, hailing the mutually beneficial relations between Singapore and African countries in attendance.

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan later received the visiting Ministers at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the official opening of the 5th Singapore–Africa Ministerial Exchange Visit. During the visit, Odongo is expected to pay a courtesy call on Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of Singapore, and hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart.

Uganda and Singapore enjoy cordial relations founded on common values and aspirations. These relations have great potential for expansion, especially in trade, investment, digitisation of government services, urban planning, and modern city concepts.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity to discuss increased collaboration and ensure high-level Singaporean participation in the upcoming 63rd Session of the Asia-Africa Legal Consultative Organization Conference in September and at the Non-Aligned Movement Ministerial Review Meeting in October 2025 in Kampala.
