President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Maama Janet Museveni have asked the people of Bushenyi District to protect peace and continue supporting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the country heads toward the 2026 general elections.

The President and First Lady addressed thousands of supporters on Tuesday at Kizinda Playground during an NRM campaign rally focused on the party’s development achievements and upcoming priorities.

Maama Janet Museveni praised Bushenyi residents for visible progress in housing, farming and maintaining government programs. “You have made a bold statement like the people of Mbarara City,” she said. She reminded supporters that peace was achieved after years of struggle and urged them not to take stability for granted. “Do not stay home. Go and vote so that we can continue enjoying peace,” she added.

President Museveni said peace remains the foundation of Uganda’s transformation, warning against divisive politics that have fuelled conflict in other countries. “Here, the situation had also deteriorated because of divisive politics, but we managed to calm it through creating a strong army and police,” he said.

He highlighted infrastructure upgrades in the district, including government work on the Mbarara–Kasese road. He said the stretch between Mbarara and Bushenyi will soon be rehabilitated, with funds and a contractor already in place. He also confirmed plans to construct the Kitabi–Kitagata–Rwamabondo road.

Museveni said he would follow up on electricity supply inconsistencies despite national generation capacity. He welcomed the growth of schools and health facilities in the district, saying rising enrolment and population reflect improved livelihoods and services. He announced that Kajunju and Kashenyi Health Centre IIs will be upgraded to Health Centre IIIs, three new Health Centre IIIs will be built, and one Health Centre IV will become a district hospital.

The President urged residents to use available land for income generation, citing success stories of farmers practising commercial agriculture. He encouraged adoption of the four-acre model and said tea remains suitable for large landowners. He added that only 30% of Ugandans are still outside the money economy and called for more participation in agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT.

Museveni said industrial parks remain key to job creation, noting that 12,000 people are employed at Mbale Industrial Park. He said government is working to acquire more land to expand similar developments.

Calling for united support ahead of the elections, Museveni said the NRM’s focus on peace, infrastructure and wealth creation has positioned Uganda for continued progress.
