President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has welcomed a proposal by investors from the United Arab Emirates to develop an inland port at Bukasa in Mukono District, saying the project would strengthen Uganda’s cargo movement and regional trade.
The President said he met a delegation from the Sharjah Chambers of Commerce and Industry at Nakasero State Lodge on Saturday morning.
The delegation was led by Farid Belbouab, the Chief Executive Officer of Gulftainer.
President Museveni said the investors presented a proposal to develop an inland port at Bukasa to support cargo movement to Sudan, Kenya and other regional destinations.
“I received their proposal to develop an inland port at Bukasa in Mukono to support cargo movement to Sudan, Kenya, and other destinations,” Museveni said.
He welcomed the initiative and pledged government support, noting that improved logistics infrastructure is critical for boosting trade and positioning Uganda as a regional transport hub.
The proposed Bukasa inland port is expected to enhance cargo handling efficiency, ease congestion at existing facilities and improve Uganda’s connectivity to regional and international markets.
