President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assured supporters in Buganda that the integrity of the electoral process will be safeguarded, declaring that no one will be allowed to steal votes as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections.
Addressing a large crowd at Kasambya Town Council in Mubende District during his first campaign stop in the region, President Museveni said the ruling party would ensure that every vote cast is counted and protected.
“No one will steal our votes,” Museveni told supporters, stressing that elections must reflect the will of the people.
He said the National Resistance Movement’s focus ahead of the polls is to consolidate peace and stability, which he described as the foundation of credible elections and national development.
Museveni reminded residents that Uganda’s past instability undermined democratic participation, arguing that sustained peace under the NRM has created an environment where citizens can freely choose their leaders.
“Without peace, there can be no meaningful elections or development,” he said.
The President also urged supporters to remain vigilant and actively participate in the electoral process, noting that safeguarding the vote requires cooperation between citizens and state institutions.
While addressing local development concerns, Museveni reiterated the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, expanding access to electricity and water, and promoting wealth creation through commercial agriculture and small enterprises.
He encouraged residents to separate politics from violence, saying the 2026 elections should be peaceful and issue-based.
Museveni’s appearance in Mubende marked the start of intensified campaign activities in Buganda, a region he said remains critical to Uganda’s political stability and economic growth.
