The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has explained his decision to opt out of a parliamentary role. The CDF clarified in a post on X that he prefers to continue representing the UPDF "where men live and die."
There had been speculation about whether the General would follow his predecessors in representing the UPDF in Parliament. While some thought it was automatic, the CDF has now settled the issue.
“I didn't stand to be a UPDF Member of Parliament because I believe my greatest purpose is to serve the God of UPDF (Almighty God) elsewhere. To serve Him in the field, where men live and die,” Gen Kainerugaba stated, ending the social media speculation.
The UPDF held elections for its representatives in Parliament on Wednesday at Bombo, electing ten officials listed below:
Lt Gen Sam Okiding, D/CDF & IG; Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, Dep Coord OWC; Lt Gen James Mugira, MD NEC; Maj Gen Henry Masiko, Joint Staff Political Commissar; Maj Gen James Kinalwa, Joint Staff HRM; Maj Gen Joseph Ssemwanga, Dep Comd Land Forces; Brig Gen David Gonyi, Chief of Staff Airforce; Col Night Ikiriza (female), SFC; Col Sylvia Meeme (female), Military Police; and Col Christine Nekesa (female), Airforce.
