Parliament has approved a supplementary budget worth Shs1.105 trillion for the 2025/26 financial year to fund elections, health worker recruitment, AFCON 2027 preparations and pending obligations within the Uganda Police Force.
The supplementary expenditure schedule was tabled by the State Minister for General Duties, Henry Musasizi. He said the funding will come from budget reallocations, extra local revenue, external financing and better cash management.
A large share of the money will support upcoming elections. Parliament approved Shs56.95 billion for LC I, LC II and Women Council Committee elections across the country following a Cabinet directive.
Preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations also received a boost, with lawmakers approving Shs29.57 billion for related activities ahead of the continental tournament.
The Uganda Police Force was allocated Shs132.9 billion to clear outstanding obligations.
Parliament also approved Shs72.9 billion in additional World Bank funding for the GROW project, which supports women entrepreneurs and small businesses.
In the health sector, Shs40.21 billion was reallocated to recruit health workers for 19 referral hospitals across the country.
Another Shs23.21 billion was approved to support wage counterpart funding for newly built schools under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Programme.
The supplementary schedule further includes Shs107.52 billion to address wage, pension and gratuity shortfalls in various ministries, departments and government agencies.
