President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned the NEC Meat and Beans Processing Factory in Gomba District. The President said the facility will strengthen Uganda's agro-processing sector, create markets for farmers and boost value addition.
The factory, located in Kisozi, is a joint venture between the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the commercial arm of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), and Kenyan investor Francis Ragwa.
In a statement posted on X on July 15, 2026, Museveni praised Ragwa for initiating the project.
"I congratulate Mr. Ragwa for his vision and initiative. NEC provided the land, but the idea was his," Museveni said.
The President said Uganda has enough capacity to supply the factory with raw materials.
He said the country's coffee, milk and livestock production continues to increase because of better organisation. He added that the government would continue mobilising farmers to expand production.
Museveni also directed ministers to take a more active role in supporting investors.
"In this Kisanja of No More Sleep, every minister must be omusumba (pastor) of their sector by ensuring that investors have the infrastructure they need to succeed," he said.
The agro-processing plant will process locally produced meat and beans for supply to security forces.
It is also expected to create a reliable market for livestock keepers and bean farmers while promoting value addition through modern processing, quality control and packaging.
The project supports the government's industrialisation agenda, which seeks to increase the value of agricultural products before they reach the market.
