The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has commissioned a new administrative block for its Department of Culture at Land Force Headquarters in Bombo to enhance operational efficiency.
Joint Staff for Formal Education, Sports and Culture, Maj. Gen. Richard Karemire, opened the facility. He stated that providing suitable infrastructure is vital for the department to fulfill its duties effectively.
“As a UPDF organ that has continued to improve the welfare of its personnel, the Culture Department cannot operate in temporary structures because this may limit its success,” Maj. Gen. Karemire said.
He praised the department for preserving military culture and highlighting Uganda’s heritage during national and international engagements.
Head of Culture in the UPDF, Lt. Col. James Taremwa, emphasized that cultural diversity within the military serves as a foundation for institutional cohesion. He noted that integrating traditional practices across units helps build troop unity.
Lt. Col. Taremwa added that the department represents the nation through traditional music, dance, acrobatics, and cultural performances at domestic and foreign events.
Senior and junior military officers attended the inauguration ceremony.
