The Special Forces Command (SFC) commander Maj Gen Asaph Nyakikuru Mweteise has challenged troops to translate their victory in the Chief of Defence Forces Inter-Forces Drill Competition into stronger combat and shooting capabilities.
Maj Gen Asaph Nyakikuru Mweteise made the call as the SFC leadership received the winning team and its trophy at the command headquarters in Entebbe, Wakiso District.
SFC won the second edition of the competition and received Shs50 million.
“This was a CDF drill competition, but it does not end there. I want us to win in combat because, after all, we are Special Forces. I also want us to win shooting competitions,” Maj Gen Mweteise said.
He said the victory reflected the professionalism, teamwork, dedication and determination expected of SFC personnel.
Maj Gen Mweteise thanked the instructors and commanders who prepared the team. He also urged the troops to begin training for future competitions.
SFC deputy commander Brig Gen John Bosco Asinguza said the victory reinforced the command’s culture of excellence.
He attributed the performance to sacrifice, courage, endurance, teamwork and preparation. He said drill develops alertness, coordination, confidence, leadership and unity among troops.
SFC chief of staff Brig Gen John Baraza Mango described drill as a foundation of military bearing. He said the victory should encourage troops to maintain high standards across the command.
Brig Gen Baraza also warned the team against complacency, saying rival formations would prepare to reclaim the trophy.
“Train as hard as possible to ensure that the trophy is not taken away from us,” he said.
Team leader Maj Stephen Mukiibi credited the victory to the participants’ focus during long hours of training, intense pressure and personal challenges.
He said the personnel competed as one command instead of representing separate units.
SFC also won the Officers’ Sword Drill category, while Lt Gordon Akandwanaho emerged as the Best Junior Officer.
The competition brought together personnel from several Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces units to test their discipline, coordination and precision.
