The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has launched a grassroots mobilisation campaign across the Busoga sub-region aimed at collecting at least 1.5 million signatures to back Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 2031 presidential bid.
The Busoga drive is part of a broader nationwide campaign in which PLU aims to collect 20 million signatures across Uganda to demonstrate what it describes as early consensus for Gen Kainerugaba’s candidacy.
The endorsement movement has gained momentum nationwide, with Cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament and prominent business leaders visiting PLU offices to sign the official endorsement books.
Speaking at the Busoga regional launch at the Source of the Nile Hotel in Jinja, Hon. David Kabanda, MP for Kasambya County and head of the PLU Office of the National Chairman, said the initiative follows the official launch of the national signature campaign in Kampala under Gen Kainerugaba’s direct instructions. He added that PLU Chairman Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba guided the decision for the village launch to take place in Busoga.
Kabanda explained that the signature collection operates strictly within existing legal frameworks for organising public support, dismissing rumours that the exercise was intended to register the civic organisation as a formal political party.
Kabanda was accompanied by Michael Mawanda, the PLU National Director of Mobilisation. The event drew key regional stakeholders, including district leaders and local administrative officials from Jinja and across the wider Busoga sub-region.
The PLU Coordinator for Busoga Sub-region, Samuel Nabetta, pledged an aggressive village-by-village mobilisation strategy to meet and surpass the 1.5 million signature target.
