UPDF Opens New Medical Facilities in South Sudan

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has opened new medical facilities at its headquarters in Bilnyang, South Sudan, to improve healthcare services for Ugandan soldiers and neighbouring communities.

The facilities, commissioned as part of Uganda’s 64th Independence Day celebrations, include a laboratory, an operating theatre, an antenatal room and a dental unit.

The additions will strengthen the military's capacity to diagnose and treat patients, perform surgical procedures and provide maternal and dental care.

The UPDF operates in South Sudan under Operation Mlinzi wa Kimya, which supports efforts to maintain peace and security in the country.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Joint Task Force Commander Brig Gen Anthony Mbuusi Lukwago thanked President Yoweri Museveni and the UPDF leadership for supporting the operation.

He also recognised the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for providing financial and logistical support to the troops.

Brig Gen Mbuusi praised the medical team for its commitment to patient care and efforts to ease congestion in the hospital wards.

He welcomed newly deployed health workers and urged them to serve patients with dedication.

The new facilities are expected to improve access to specialised medical services for UPDF personnel and South Sudanese civilians living near the military headquarters.

Senior and junior UPDF officers attended the commissioning ceremony.
