Gen Kainerugaba Concludes Egypt Trip After Meeting President Al-sisi, Top Army Chiefs
The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander Land Forces of the UPDF Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba returned home Tuesday evening after his five-day working visit.
Gen Kainerugaba who was invited by President Al-sisi met the Egyptian leader at his presidential palace in Cairo where they held a private meeting at the presidential palace in Cairo.
"I met President el Sisi this morning at the Egyptian Presidential Palace. We were both very happy to see each other after 12 years. We discussed strengthening the Egyptian-Ugandan defence alliance and regional security. He promised to strongly support greater Egyptian-Ugandan military relations," Gen Kainerugaba told The Kampala Post after the meeting.
"I congratulated him on assuming the highest office in Egypt and for the rapid socio-economic progress Egypt is making under his very capable leadership."
Before meeting the Egyptian president, Gen Kainerugaba held a meeting with Lieutenant General Osama Askar, Chief of the General Staff of the Egyptian military (equivalent of Uganda's CDF). The two met at the Egyptian Ministry of Defence headquarters in Cairo.
Gen Kainerugaba also held meetings with commanders of different sections of the Egyptian Armed Forces including Air Defence, Air Force, Land Forces and Special Forces .
After his return, Gen Kainerugaba said Uganda and Egypt have unbreakable military ties.
"I returned home this evening after a 5 day visit to Egypt. I thank His Excellency @AlsisiOfficial, the great Armed Forces of Egypt and the Egyptian people for the very warm reception we received. Ugandan-Egyptian relations are very strong and unbreakable," Gen Kainerugaba said in a tweet Tuesday evening.
