The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has announced plans to stage a massive demonstration at the Kenyan High Commission in Kampala in response to an article published by a Nairobi-based newspaper, which they have deemed offensive.

The article targeted their patron, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations.

The Kenyan newspaper, The Standard, sparked controversy with a headline labeling Gen Kainerugaba as a "Four-Star Brat." This followed his recent posts on his X (formerly Twitter) platform, where he addressed the violence against the Tutsi community in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Notably, Gen Kainerugaba was in Nairobi last week, alongside other East Africa Community military chiefs, to discuss strategies for resolving the ongoing crisis in Eastern DRC.

In response to the ‘Standard Newspaper’ article, the PLU has condemned the characterization of their chairman, viewing it as a direct and unacceptable insult.

Through his official X handle, the PLU Secretary General Daudi Kabanda has called for a vigorous demonstration at the Kenyan High Commission next Wednesday to express displeasure over the article.

Kabanda who is also the Member of Parliament for Kasambya stated, “PLU is going to hold an energetic demonstration at the Kenyan High Commission next week on Wednesday. They burned our High Commission last year, and we did not respond. Now, one of their newspapers has insulted our PLU Chairman. We will respond with full force!”

It should be recalled that last year, during the ‘Gen Z’ protests that threatened to destabilize President William Ruto’s government, the Uganda High Commission in Nairobi was attacked by protesters. In the process, property worth millions of shillings was destroyed.

As news of the attack spread across Kampala, Gen Kainerugaba, in his capacity as Chief of Defense Forces, ordered the deployment of troops to the Kenya High Commission in Kampala to prevent retaliatory attacks by angry Ugandans.

This move was welcomed as a measure to maintain diplomatic decorum amid rising tensions at the time.
