President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and other leaders from the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) held a virtual summit to discuss the escalating security crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

EAC, SADC Leaders Agree on Plan to Resolve Eastern DRC Conflict

The leaders emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to restore stability in the region.

The summit, co-chaired by Kenyan President William Ruto and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, reviewed previous resolutions from the African Union and the United Nations Security Council on the conflict.

The leaders adopted a joint report from the EAC-SADC ministerial meeting held on March 17, 2025, in Harare, Zimbabwe, which included recommendations from defense chiefs and a roadmap outlining immediate, medium, and long-term strategies for sustainable peace.

The summit directed the immediate implementation of the roadmap and commended the EAC and SADC Secretariats for their preparatory work.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a collaborative approach in addressing the security challenges in eastern DRC.
