The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has renewed Paul Put’s contract as Head Coach of the Uganda Cranes, extending his stay until 2028. The decision comes as Uganda intensifies preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) under the PAMOJA partnership.

FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson said the extension brings an end to weeks of speculation about the Cranes’ technical leadership. He emphasized that the Federation’s focus is on building a stable and well-prepared national team ahead of the continental tournament.

“This renewal ensures continuity and stability as we build towards AFCON 2027. It’s a crucial step in maintaining a structured technical direction for the team,” Watson stated.

Under the new contract, Put will continue to oversee the senior national team, the CHAN squad, and the U-23 side, steering Uganda’s overall technical and player development framework.

As part of the team’s preparations, FUFA has confirmed international friendlies against Chad and Morocco on November 14 and 18, 2025, respectively. Watson said the matches will help the Cranes assess their strength ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.

FUFA First Vice President Justus Mugisha welcomed the renewal, saying it reflects the Federation’s confidence in Put’s leadership and vision.

“Coach Put has shown a clear understanding of FUFA’s long-term technical master plan. His leadership has been instrumental in aligning our national teams toward one development pathway,” Mugisha noted.

Put, who was appointed in 2023, has been credited with introducing a more disciplined tactical approach and nurturing young talent for the national team setup.
