Police and Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) officers on May 18, 2026 removed several luxury vehicles from the residence of outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Among in Kigo as part of investigations into alleged illicit enrichment and money laundering.
Among the vehicles taken away were a Rolls-Royce registration number UA 426 EH and multiple Range Rovers, including one bearing registration number AAA 3.
Police used low-bed carrier trucks to transport the vehicles to undisclosed locations as CID officers continued operations at the property.
The operation came a day after Among withdrew from the Speaker of Parliament race following mounting political pressure within the ruling NRM party.
Her withdrawal followed President Museveni’s endorsement of Defence Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth for the Speaker position. Among later said she stepped aside after consultations with party leaders.
The probe also followed public criticism from the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who said parliament’s budget should be reduced and warned that “no one will be spared” in the ongoing crackdown against corruption and misuse of public funds.
On Saturday morning, security officers reportedly raided Among’s residence and confiscated cash, electronic devices and other valuables before extending the operation to the luxury vehicles.
