The Inspector General of Government, Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, has ordered the arrest of an enrolled nurse at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital over alleged neglect of a patient at the casualty unit.

The directive followed a spot check at the facility at the start of the IGG’s regional office tour, beginning with the Kabale Regional Office.

According to preliminary findings, the suspect, identified as Tumuheki Nicholas, allegedly instructed the caregiver of a profusely bleeding patient to place the patient on the floor, citing lack of prior communication from the referring health unit to prepare a bed.

The patient had been referred from Kamwezi Health Centre IV.

Further allegations indicate that the caregiver was directed to buy medicine from a nearby pharmacy after being informed that the hospital had no drugs.

The caregiver, however, reported that the purchased medicines were never administered to the patient.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing according to information from the office of IGG.
