Elite Agro, a United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based agro-processing company, pitched its plan to establish 7 tea processing factories in Uganda, according to The National Agriculture Advisory Services (NAADS).

Officials from the company landed in Kampala on Saturday for a 5-day visit after the impression created by President Yoweri Museveni during the Dubai Expo.

"A business delegation from the company is in Uganda for 5 days to scout for investment opportunities in agro-processing," NAADS said in a statement.

"The business delegation headed by Dr. Abdul Monen Almarzooqi, the executive director and board member [of] Elite Group was wooed by [President] Kaguta Museveni to come and invest in Uganda during his visit to the ongoing Dubai Expo."

On Sunday, the delegation visited tea farms and proposed sites for tea factories in Kabarole, Kyenjojo and Zombo.

"We are impressed with the tea development in Uganda," said Almarzooqi, according to NAADS.

Uganda’s annual exports of tea average 65,000 metric tons annually and experts have said this figure can be improved with better agronomical practices.
