The 3rd Session of the Uganda-India Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting began on March 25, 2025, at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi.

The meeting was opened by Shri Jay Bhadoo, Additional Secretary of India's Ministry of Commerce. The High Commissioner of India to Uganda, Upender Singh Rawat, and the High Commissioner of Uganda to India, Amb. Prof. Joyce Kakuramatsi Kikafunda, were also in attendance.

The Ugandan delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives; Ministry of Internal Affairs (Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control); Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Works and Transport; Ministry of ICT and National Guidance; Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Civil Aviation Authority; Uganda National Bureau of Standards; and Uganda Airlines.

The JTC is co-chaired by Priya Nair, Economic Advisor at India's Ministry of Commerce & Industry, and Amb. Elly Kamahungye Kafeero from Uganda's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Key topics on the agenda include reviewing bilateral trade and investments, discussing the status of the Duty Free Trade Preferences (DFTP) and Lines of Credit, and exploring cooperation in mining, finance (UPI), agriculture, MSMEs, standards, and health.

The meeting aims to tackle trade bottlenecks such as Non-Tariff Barriers and standards, while also looking for ways to expand Uganda’s export opportunities under the DFTP scheme and enhance collaboration in the highlighted sectors.
